About the Author

Ruth Horowitz is Professor Emerita of Sociology at New York University. She is the author of several award winning books including, In the Public Interest: Medical Licensing and the Disciplinary Process (2013), Teen Mother's: Citizens or Dependents? (1995), Street Kids, Street Drugs, Street Crime (1992) with James Inciardi and Anne Pottieger, and Honor and the American Dream (1983). She describes dance as her favorite "after school" activity.
